The Save the Massac Committee
Our committee was formed in May of 2009 with the purpose of saving a historic icon in Metropolis, Illinois, the Massac Theatre. We are a 501(c)3 not-for-profit corporation and all donations are tax deductible.
We are working towards saving an historic building and giving it a new purpose that will serve our community. Our hope for the Massac Theatre is a state of the art theatre in an historic setting. The theatre will be used for community theater, our school system’s concerts and drama productions, and entertainment of all varieties. And, of course, to bring movies back to Massac County.
Our meetings are held at 6:00 p.m. on the last Thursday of each month in the Basement of the Metropolis Public Library. Our Officers for 2016-2017 are: President – Lisa Gower, Vice President – Deneal Bullock, and Treasurer – Randy Rushing. A copy of our financial report and bylaws can be obtained by writing Lisa Gower, c/o Creations The Florist, 600 Ferry Street, Metropolis, IL 62960.
Since its debut in 1938, the Massac Theatre was an integral part of the community landscape of Metropolis, Illinois.
After being condemned in 2009 and slated for demolition, members of the community banded together to save this historic landmark.
There is a bright future in store for this grand Art Deco Theatre. With your help, Save the Massac is breathing new life into both the theatre and the community.
